About FOEPL's President, Joselyn Geaga-Rosenthal:
Joselyn Geaga-Rosenthal, L.C.S.W. is a licensed psychotherapist by profession.
She received her AA at LACC in 1967, her B.A. in Social Work at UCLA in 1969 and her Masters in Social Work at USC in 1971.
She received her California License as a Clinical Social Worker in 1973. She is a published author of articles in the mental health field and has been faculty lecturer at CSULA, Department of Social Work.
Joselyn worked in three Los Angeles County departments between 1971 to 2006, grateful to have had simultaneous assignments in direct patient care and in administration, focusing on program development and application
of best practices in both direct patient care and management systems.
Her volunteer community work over the past decades has earned her several awards and recognitions such as Pioneer Woman Award, Los Angeles City Women’s Commission, May 2005; Global 100 Most Influential Filipina Woman Award, USA Filipino Women’s Network, October 2013; Community Service Award, Philippine Consulate General of Los Angeles, 1990.
She served on many nonprofit boards and citizens commissions such as the Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission (1994-2006); Asian Pacific American Friends, Los Angeles Center Theatre Group Music Center, Los Angeles (1992-2004) and currently serves as president of the Friends of the Echo Park Library and is Mayor Eric Garcetti’s appointee to the Board of Building and Safety Commission. This recent appointment is most compatible with Joselyn’s decades long interest and passion in preserving the environment, developing systems that conform to the principles of permaculture and sustainability.
She draws inspiration from the life and community service of her late parents Jose V. Geaga and Remedios V. Geaga.
Remedios was honored by the Los Angeles City Council in the designation of the intersection of Temple St. and Alvarado
in Historic Filipinotown as “Remy’s Square” in October 2009.
